Profile

A fully funded PhD candidate at Ulster University and media practitioner with a background in both media education and production. My research interests include popular culture, fandom, and cultural politics. I am the PhD Representative for the School of Communications and Media at Ulster University and I have presented my research at conferences across Europe (including Irish Screen Studies Seminar, Ulster University and Celebrity Studies Conference, University of Amsterdam). I have contributed to various projects across radio and television, contributing to programmes on Arte TV (Germany), BBC Radio Four and BBC Radio Ulster (Northern Ireland). I am interested in developing a career which combines teaching and research, while maintaining my interest in journalism and public engagement.


Experience

Postgraduate Teaching Assistant – Ulster University

  • Seminar tutor for Visual Cultures (MED131) and Media and Society (MED101) modules, for BA Journalism and MSc Interactive Media undergraduate courses
  • Leading undergraduate seminars, facilitating discussions and critical engagement.
  • Assisting in grading coursework, exams, and providing detailed feedback.
  • Developing teaching materials and coordinating with course lecturers.
  • Attending training and departmental meetings for professional development.


Freelance Journalist for Print and Radio (2018 - present)
  • Recording and editing original audio packages and contributing live on-air to a variety of programmes on BBC Radio Ulster (ATL Introducing, Talkback, The Summer Social, Culture Cafe)
  • Curating and selecting exciting new music from BBC Introducing Uploader for airplay 
  • Liaising with producers and presenters to create engaging content for the show
  • Interviewing guests, scripting and editing radio packages for broadcast
  • Experience using DALET and Pro Tools editing software
  • Contributing writer to Dig With It Magazine, Vocal Girls Magazine, and other publications
  • Liaising with editors and providing input in regular editorial meetings

Social Media Manager – Country Estates (July 2017 – present)

  • Collating and posting all new property listings on social media platforms for reputable estate agency firm. 
  • Writing engaging, concise and accurate copy for the company website.
